1. What's the minimum bet?
$1 or $2, dependent upon the bet type. Generally, 'Straight' wagers, i.e. Win, Place, Show, Doubles, Exactas, etc. are for $2, but most permutation bets, such as boxes and wheels are allowed for $1 per combination. There are exceptions such as the $1 Pick 4 at some harness tracks and the $2 Pick 6.

2. What's the difference between track prices and surcharge prices?
Under the laws of the state of New York, cities with populations in excess of 1,000,000 adopted a local law imposing a surcharge of 5% on pari-mutuel off-track winnings (plus a supplemental 1%, for a total surcharge of 6%, on winnings from multiple, exotic and super exotic wagers). The surcharge and any related breakage is divided between the Corporation and the County in which the New York Track is located. Note that teletheaters and telephone wagering are without a surcharge and pay track prices.

3. How long can I wait before cashing a winning ticket?
A pari-mutuel winning ticket may be cashed until the last day of March following the year it was purchased, thus a ticket has a 'life' of from 3 months to 15 months. On April 1, unclaimed tickets, applicable to the preceding calendar year are distributed to New York State.

4. Are my winnings considered taxable income?
An IRS Form must be completed for every person whose total payoff for a single wager is $600.00 or more, if such winnings are at least 300 times the amount of the wager (299 to 1). Federal withholding, at the rate of 25% applies when the payoff is more than $5000 (and the winnings are at least 300 times the amount of the single wager).

5. Are minors permitted in OTB branches?
No, you must be 18 years of age to enter an OTB branch.

6. Do OTB Credit Vouchers have an expiration date?
NYCOTB Credit Vouchers are kept "on-line" for cashing for 999 days, however the Corporate policy has been to honor older vouchers if presented to Customer Services.

7. May I cash my NYCOTB ticket at the track or at another statewide OTB office?
No, NYCOTB is one of six District Regional Off-Track Betting Corporations in New York State and cashing of NYCOTB tickets is within the 5 Boroughs of New York City. New York State Racetracks are also either independent Corporations or Racing Associations, thus there is no cross-cashing.

8.The Live Tote on nycotb.com shows additional information (i.e., jockey, trainer, purse, distance) that I would like to see while making my wagers on ibetOTB.com.  Can I view the Tote and ibetOTB.com at the same time?
Yes, you can view both by following these 3 simple steps:

  • Log onto ibetOTB.com and select the tab “Pop Off” located above the wagering pad.  Minimize this screen (ibetOTB Betting Pad).
  • On the opened page, select the tab “Live Tote” located on the upper right.  Maximize this screen.
  • Bring back the ibetOTB Betting Pad page.  You can either toggle back and forth between the two pages or adjust the pages so they’re both visible at the same time, whichever is more convenient for you.

9. How do I make multiple bets for the same track?
After receiving the bet confirmation for the initial wager for that track, just hit “Repeat Bet” located on the Actions Bar.  This will bring back your last bet information.  Then click on “Backspace” or “Clear Horses” until the part of the wager you wish to change has been removed from the Status Bar.  Then, enter your selections for your next wager
